February is National Children’s Dental Health Month!

Happy February! We often associate this time of the year with chilly weather and Valentine’s Day, however, February is also National Children’s Dental Health Month!

Our patients and parents know that oral care is necessary all year long, but National Children’s Dental Health Month is an excellent reminder to start practicing healthy habits early. Baby teeth may not be permanent, but teaching your child to care for them ensures they have a healthy, happy smile throughout every stage of life. Here are a few ways to make oral care fun for your child!

Toothbrushes & Toothpaste

If your child seems disinterested in brushing their teeth, try letting them pick out their toothbrush and toothpaste. Giving them control over these choices creates excitement around brushing and makes their night and morning routines feel more personalized! Many stores carry countless children’s toothbrushes in various colors and styles. Your child may even find a toothbrush with their favorite cartoon character on the front! There are also plenty of fun, affordable toothpaste options for children. Many have unique flavors and fun designs to make brushing more fun. Letting them make small decisions like this can drastically change their mood toward oral care!

Storytime Before Bed

Many children love reading stories with their parents before bedtime. Celebrate National Children’s Dental Health Month by reading fun oral health books together! Some children find it challenging to understand the importance of oral health, but reading books together can make the information more exciting and palatable. Not only does this help reinforce healthy habits at an early age, but reading stories together allows you and your child to bond before they go to bed.

Make storytime even more exciting by allowing your child to choose which oral health books they want to read! Letting them make this choice ensures they will love the books you purchase (The more invested they are, the better)! Set some time aside for you and your child to shop online or head to the store to find colorful, exciting stories. We recommend grabbing a few books to provide your child with multiple informational resources.

Pediatric Dentist Visits

We recommend that children have their first dentist appointment before the age of one. From there, children should see the dentist semi-annually. Make these visits fun by choosing an excellent pediatric dental office in your area! Interacting with dentists at an early age can set a precedent for how comfortable they will feel at dental offices later in life. Make sure to choose a dentist who specializes in children’s teeth and knows how to make them feel comfortable.

Here at Texas Tiny Teeth, we are experts at caring for young smiles. We create a warm and welcoming environment to ensure children have fun, memorable experiences while interacting with our staff. After their appointment, they can select a toy from our treasure chest and leave with a smile. Not only do we provide exceptional dental care, but we make every visit fun, educational, and comfortable for parents and children alike.
